My Clemson Coursework

This page illustrates the courses that I have had the opportunity to take over my four years as a Clemson undergraduate student. My major uniquely combines courses of spanish language, health science, and culture to form a singular degree. Feel free to explore the courses that I have taken and also some artifacts from those classes. 

Spanish Language Proficiency

Spanish 1020 - Elementary Spanish

Focus on the fundamentals of grammar, vocabulary, and verbal proficiency in order to create a foundational base of Spanish.

Spanish 2020 - Intermediate Spanish

A continuation of Spanish 2010 and the use of acquired grammar and vocabulary skills to improve overall abilities.

Spanish 3070 - The Hispanic World: Spain

A course taken abroad in Seville, Spain, with a focus on Spain's culture from past to present times. Utilization of Spanish-speaking skills to understand artistic, social, historical, political, and contemporary issues throughout the Iberian Peninsula. 

Spanish 3150 - Spanish for Health Professionals

The class concentrated on terminology and medical concepts taught in Spanish with the intended audience of future public healthcare workers. The course was taught during the study abroad semester.

Spanish 4190- Health and the Hispanic Community

Study of the Hispanic population in the U.S. and in Latin America as well as the health services, health disparities, and cultural aspects experienced by the population. The course is taught in Spanish with an emphasis on a final literature review assignment.

Spanish 2010 - Intermediate Spanish

Practice skills learned in Spanish 1020 through listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish. Utilize basic grammar and vocabulary to look at different cultural perspectives.

Spanish 3050 - Intermediate Spanish Conversation and Composition I

Attention focused on practicing Spanish verbally through the use of pronunciation and intonation skills. Improvements in the accuracy of Spanish in written works and assignments. 

Spanish 3130 - Spanish of Literature Survey I

Course taught in Spanish during study abroad semester. Teachings focused on literary movements, influences, and authors from the 17th century in Spain through the evaluation of several Spanish novels and plays.

Spanish 3180 - Spanish through Culture

Course taught in Spanish relating to topics of Hispanic culture and how it affects Spain today. Conversations, compositions, and engagement driven by cultural knowledge.

Spanish 4180- Technical Spanish for Health Management Professionals

Specific courses with a priority on technical health communication, as well as managerial and business skills, are taught in Spanish. This course focuses on the various health care systems with specific insight into Latin American and the Caribbean.

Health Science

BIOL 1100/1110 - Principles of Biology I+II

Principles of Biology I + II are courses focused on giving a general introduction to the basics of a biology course. 

BIOL 2220/2230 - Anatomy and Physiology I + II

Anatomy and Physiology I + II were taught over the course of two semesters with a lab credit included. By first learning material related to the various body systems and functions in the lecture, the lab enhanced the application of the content.

HLTH 2030 - Overview of Health Care Systems

The class highlighted the various health systems in use around the globe, the pros and cons of each, and why the United States uses the system we do. HLTH 2030 also focused on the various insurance policies available in the US and who is eligible for each.

HLTH 2400 - Determinants of Health Behavior

Throughout this course, the determinants of health were the overarching takeaway and analyzed human behaviors depending on specific social, economic, cultural, and environmental factors. The course also introduces health behavior theories.

HLTH 3150 - Social Epidemiology
This course focused on analyzing and exploring current public health issues related to specific populations. By looking at the specific popualtion groups, the course explored the patterns associated with relevant risk factors including biological, sociocultural, behavioral, political factors, etc.
HLTH 4900 - Research and Evaluation Strategies for Public Health

The content of this course focuses primarily on public health-related research strategies, study designs, and methods of analysis. Issues of morals, legality, and ethics are discussed with several analysis projects.

HLTH 4310 - Public and Environmental Health
The course concentrates on the interaction between human and environmental factors and what impact that has on certain health outcomes. Public policy is largely discussed relating to current and former laws and reforms on topics such as chemical waste, climate change, and more.
CH 1010/1020 - General Chemistry I+II

General Chemistry I + II courses focused on giving a general introduction to the basics of a chemistry course.

HLTH 2020 - Introduction to Public Health

Introduction to Public Health gave me an overview of what the field of public health was all about and the various professions that are offered. It provided the foundation for subsequent classes to build upon.

HLTH 2980 - Human Health and Disease

In Human Health and Disease class, the foundation of the most common illnesses, diseases, and infections was taught. The course focused on the current rates, symptoms, treatments and more with interactive projects and presentations.

HLTH 3250 - Infectious Diseases & Exposures

This upper-level health class focuses directly on communicable diseases and their related symptoms, treatments, diagnostic testing, target populations, and more. By emphasizing this specific subset of diseases, their individual importantce is highlighted as a special population

HLTH 3800 - Epidemiology

In epidemiology, the course combines health topics with statistical analyses to better understand the current rates of disease. Various study designs, methods, and principales are introduced to be able to identify the distrubution and control of disease.  

HLTH 4700 - Global Health
Explores the international aspects of public health and how certain diseases or conditions are addressed on the global scale. Reflects on the current strategies of design, implementation, and management of international health initiatives.
HLTH 3100 - Women's Health Issues
Centered on women's health disparities, this course delves deeper into the specific health needs of women, future research expansion related to this, and the current stigmas related. Through special topic presentations, relevant guest speakers, and more, the course tackles the topic of women's health.
HLTH 4800 - Community Health Promotion
This course is the culmination and implementation of many of the past course ciriculum involving community health intiatives, interventions, and needs assessments. Through the hands-on experience of conducting a community health program, the course stresses the importance of several public health efforts.
